So what exactly are they?

A fascia is a board that is mounted at the point the roof and the outer walls of the house meet. It is fixed directly to the lower trusses of the roof, this is quite often called the roofline. The fascia is also responsible for holding the guttering.

A soffit is the board that is tucked under the fascia, and which runs parallel with the roof if it was flat. This can often be ventilated to allow air to flow into the roof, preventing condensation and the problems that come with it.

Soffits, fascias and guttering are usually constructed using one of two materials – UPVC and Timber. Often, UPVC is chosen for more modern designs, but it can be manipulated to suit almost any property.

Timber, on the other hand, is more widely used on older and more traditional properties. UPVC comes with a huge range of benefits.  As well as being a popular choice in the construction of soffits, fascias and guttering, it is also used for many other products, including window frames and piping. This is down to its durability – it doesn’t rot, and it’s highly weather resistant. UPVC is specifically designed to have a smooth outer layer, allowing for precipitation to run freely through the guttering system, and stopping any build up of water. UPVC is also BPA free. UPVC can be liable to change shape when under high heat temperatures, however, our UPVC is developed with a heat shield technology that eliminates this completely.

A solid and reliable guttering system is crucial to any household. When fitted properly, guttering can provide the following benefits:

  • Soil around the house is stabilised
  • Help prevent flooding around home
  • Erosion can be prevented and this preserves your garden landscaping
  • Water staining on brick and stone masonry can be prevented
  • Reduced erosion and general wear on paths and driveways
  • Exterior doors and garage overhead doors can be preserved

At 5 Star Roof Care, we follow a tried and trusted process that delivers the highest standard of work possible. Once we have completed your guttering installation, we offer various aftercare packages and separate maintenance packages depending on your individual requirements. It is imperative that gutters are kept maintained, especially if your property has trees overhanging it. Leaves and other materials transported by wind can build up in your gutter, causing blockages, which can in turn cause water leaks and other hazards.
