When it comes to lead roofing, there are 3 main types to choose from:

Sand Cast Lead

This is the most traditional form of lead roofing. As such, it can be found on many ancient buildings such as churches and English Heritage buildings. Sand cast lead is ideal for older buildings or historical renovations.

Milled Lead

Milled lead has become more popular in recent years, often being used on building sites where thin lead flashing is carried out. Milled lead is used for precision and accuracy in homes and commercial buildings alike, and is most commonly used on public buildings and house extensions.

Machine Cast Lead

This can be cast very thinly, meaning a small amount of material can be used widely across one project. This makes it the most cost effective type of lead roofing. Machine cast lead offers a similar finish to milled lead.

Lead roofing has become increasingly popular over the years, and it's not hard to see why. As well as providing a beautiful, finished look to your property, here are just a few more of the benefits of a lead roof:

Lead roofing products have an average lifespan in excess of 60 years, with many lasting over 100 years. This is due to their durability. This long lifespan means a good quality lead roof can last as much as three times longer than other roofing materials. This is why many historic buildings have lead roofing.

The longevity of lead roofing make it a cost-effective solution. When fitted correctly using high quality lead, you will have a long lasting roof that won’t need any work done to it for a number of years, resulting in substantial savings in maintenance and insurance costs. Over a 40 year period, lead can work out up to 50% cheaper than alternative materials.

Weather resistant

Lead is extremely flexible and can be manipulated into any shape to allow for total coverage. Not only does this flexibility provide excellent sealing properties, it also allows the material to expand or contract depending on the outdoor temperatures, making it unrivalled in its quality for weather protection. Lead is resistant to any type of corrosion, helping it stand the test of time. Its ability to cope in different environments and adapt to climate change make it perfect for the unpredictable British weather. The fact it isn’t impacted by damp or cold weather conditions also means project delays are minimised.

Environmentally friendly

Lead roofing is extremely environmentally friendly. It has a much lower carbon footprint compared with other hard metals, and is up to 100% recyclable, making it one of the greenest materials available.

As well as installing lead roofing, we also provide a repair service to damaged lead work in the form of lead welding. This has helped many of our customers to prolong the life of their lead roofs for many more years to come, all at an affordable price.
